SpLDs, like dyslexia, are hidden disabilities, sometimes mistaken for not trying hard enough, not listening, or not paying attention. Repeated negative learning experiences can be traumatic, distancing a child further from effective learning. The SEN Code of Practice promotes early identification of SpLDs.
